P.V.A.

Chemical Formula: (C?H?O)?
Molecular Weight: Variable (typically 44,000 – 186,000 g/mol, depending on grade)

Description:
Polyvinyl Alcohol (P.V.A.) is a white to off-white, odorless, water-soluble synthetic polymer produced by the controlled hydrolysis of polyvinyl acetate. It possesses excellent film-forming, adhesive, emulsifying, and barrier properties. P.V.A. is non-toxic, biodegradable, and widely used across industrial, textile, paper, and construction applications.

Applications:

  • Adhesives: Used in wood glues, paper adhesives, and packaging applications due to strong bonding properties.

  • Textile Industry: Functions as a sizing agent, warp dressing, and finishing resin to improve fabric strength.

  • Paper Coating: Enhances surface gloss, oil resistance, and printability of coated paper.

  • Construction: Used in cement admixtures and mortars to improve workability and adhesion.

  • Cosmetics & Pharmaceuticals: Acts as a film-former and binder in tablets, masks, and lotions.

  • Emulsion Polymerization: Serves as a protective colloid and stabilizer in vinyl acetate and acrylate emulsions
